Before starting your Pulmonary Rehabilitation program, at Active Lungs we take time to understand your full health picture—not just your lungs.

  • Medical history - we collect your full medical history. This helps us tailor the program to your unique needs and keep you safe throughout.

  • Assessment of exercise capacity – including measurements of blood pressure, oxygen and heart rate. This assessment helps us build a program that meets you where you are—and helps you go further, safely.

  • Assessment of Quality of Life: we ask questions about your daily activities, mood, sleep, energy levels, and overall wellbeing. These are part of a quality of life assessment, which helps us understand how your lung condition affects your day to day life.

  • Assessment of shortness of breath - Shortness of breath is one of the most common and frustrating symptoms for people with chronic lung conditions. That’s why we regularly assess it—before, during, and after exercise., and tailor your exercises accordingly.

Why It’s Important:

Safety First: We need to know about any other health conditions—like heart disease, joint pain, or anxiety—that could affect how you exercise or respond to treatment.

Tailored Care: Your medical history helps us design a program that fits your needs, goals, and limitations. For example, if you’ve had recent surgery or use oxygen, we’ll adjust your treatment plan accordingly.

Whole-Person Support: We look at your medications, nutrition, mental health, and lifestyle to make sure we’re supporting your wellbeing—not just your breathing.

With your consent, we share your assessment results and progress with your doctors, to ensure consistent and coordinated support.
